Setkina Valentina Nikolaevna (1913–1995)

  • Print

Doctor of sciences, professor, laureate of the Ministry Prize of USSR, holder of “Badge of Honour” order and several medals.

Prof. Setkina was an outstanding chemist. Together with Prof. Kursanov she developed the methods of hydrogen isotope exchange which allowed quantitative measurements of reactivity of transition metal π-complexes, containing cyclopentadienyl, arene and heterocyclic ligands. She has also developed the metalation reactions which was later used as convenient method for introduction of various substituents in aromatic ligands of  π-complexes. In particular, this method was used for preparation of “ladder”-type complexes in which π-ligand acts as σ-substituent for the second metal. Prof. Setkina had worked in INEOS RAS from the foundation of the institute in 1954.
